Product Description

With more than 50,000 first-edition copies sold, this expanded second edition provides the latest information on restoring your body’s acid-alkaline balance

• Discusses the role of enzyme supplements, prebiotic and probiotic complexes, and antioxidants in neutralizing and eliminating acids

• Addresses the relationship of proper hydration to essential enzyme activity and acid elimination

• Outlines a sample alkaline detoxification diet

Most people consume an abundance of highly processed foods that acidify the body. As a result, they are afflicted with health problems ranging from minor skin irritations, chronic fatigue, back pain, and depression to arthritis, ulcers, and osteoporosis. To enjoy optimum health, the body needs balanced quantities of alkaline and acid substances. In The Acid-Alkaline Diet for Optimum Health, naturopath and detoxification expert Christopher Vasey shows how a simple change in diet to restore your acid-alkaline balance can result in vast improvements in health.

With two new chapters, this updated and expanded second edition provides the latest information on proper hydration and deacidification, important alkalizing supplements, and how to eliminate the body’s accumulated acids through intestinal cleansing. It also includes a new, detailed example of an alkaline detoxifying diet. Rather than organizing alkaline and acid foods based on their chemical composition, Vasey categorizes foods by their effect on the body, explaining that some foods, such as fruits, can have either an alkalizing or an acidifying effect, depending on who eats them. He describes how to determine your acid levels and how to design a diet best suited for your particular health needs.

Eat, Play, And Be Healthy

Eat, Play, and Be HealthyThere are many ways to eat healthy. From a very young age, we learn that healthy diet composes of a variety of food groups. You have to get your daily protein, carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits, vitamins as well as fat. The US Department of Agriculture has come up with the healthy diet food pyramid to help you determine what a healthy diet is. There are recommended servings of fruits and vegetables that you should have each day.

"Written by one of the world's top nutritional physicians, "Eat, Play, and Be Healthy" gives scientifically sound and kitchen-tested advice on creating lifelong healthy eating habits. This book is a solution to the growing epidemic of nutrition-related health and behavior problems in children' - William Sears, M.D., author of "The Baby Book".

'An excellent guide for parents who want to provide the best possible nutritional health for their growing children' - Ronald Kleinman, M.D., former chairman of the Committee on Nutrition, American Academy of Pediatrics. With so much conflicting advice coming from the media, your friends, and parenting guides, it's hard to know whether you're making the right food choices for your kids.

Written by a leading authority on pediatric nutrition, "Eat, Play, and Be Healthy" provides answers to all your childhood nutrition questions - and much more. "Eat, Play, and Be Healthy" shows you how to feed your children to ensure that their young bodies and minds enjoy full and healthy growth at every stage of development.

Picking up where Dr. Walter C. Willett's international bestseller "Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy" left off, W. Allan Walker, M.D., shows how to apply the research-based Healthy Eating Pyramid to a child's unique needs. Drawing on his forty years of clinical research as well as the latest scientific findings, he:

  • offers a scientifically proven alternative to the FDA food pyramid;

Healthy Diet Pyramid

Have you heard of a healthy diet pyramid? Many different organizations have introduced their version of the Healthy Diet Pyramid. However, all Healthy Diet Pyramids are pretty much the same with a slight variations from country to country. But, basically, the Healthy Diet Pyramid would have:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Protein (meat or alternatives such as eggs and milk), and
  • Fat

Below is a picture of the US Department of Agriculture healthy diet food pyramid for Americans. Other countries also have their own versions of healthy diet pyramid that is similar to this one below.

Healthy Diet Pyramid

In the past, the healthy diet pyramid did not use to come with recommended daily servings. Nowadays, each health organization have included the daily recommended serving for each good group.

What is the recommended serving for each food group?

Food group
Recommended servings daily
Carbohydrate 5-10 servings
Vegetables 3-5 servings
Fruit 2-4 servings
Protein or protein alternatives 4-6 servings
Fat Minimal

What Is a Healthy Diet?

"What is a Healthy Diet" is a loaded question. In the past, it would have been difficult to answer this question but nowadays there are enough science, evidence, studies and researches behind explanations of what a healthy diet is.

Definition of healthy diet

If you have been reading a lot of resources online, you will see that most people have the definition of what a healthy diet is as a diet low in fat and consisting of lots of fruits, vegetables and fibers as well as other added nutrients. However the most basic definition of a healthy diet is the diet that after you eat, you feel well. In another word, a healthy diet is the diet that makes you:

  • not having to go to the doctors or hospitals
  • immune to diseases and illnesses
  • never get sick
  • feel energized
  • feel younger
  • look younger (better skin, complexion, etc)
  • live longer
  • and so on... (you get the idea)

Healthy Diet and Weight Loss or Gain

With this definition in mind, however, a healthy diet does not stop there, a healthy diet will also make you feel lively and happy as well as lose weight. Each person has a norm or ideal weight that, if you are at that weight, then you are just right, not too fat or too thin. A healthy diet will help you achieve your ideal weight.

Short Term or Long Term Goal

Most people think by eating healthy, they are depriving themselves of all the great food in the world. Many people say, if you don't eat what you want then life is not worth living. Well, on the one hand, by eating unhealthy food, you will get the joy while eating the food, but you will spend the rest of your life paying for that joy. Most people are not realizing that the small burst of joy of eating that hamburger is not worth spending the last 20 years of their life in the hospital bed or eating only low cholesterol foods and having to take pills and injections just to keep the body function like a normal person.

So, if you want to live longer and enjoy life even when you are 80 - 90 or 100 years old, then you will need to start eating healthy now. Don't destroy your body and health and fix them when they are already destroyed. You have no doubt heard that prevention is better than correction. Eat healthy now and start living a healthy lifestyle so that you can enjoy life fuller. A healthy diet is not hard to come by and they are not expensive either. All you need to be on a healthy diet is a will to become healthy and a commitment to stay healthy.

If you need help and suggestions, here is a book that can help you eat healthy!
