Diet to Lower Risk of Heart Disease And Stroke
Recently, the Nurses' Health Study, the most definitive long-term epidemiological studies conducted to date on older women's health, from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) reported from a Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH).
The Diet
They found that the following diet was significantly associated with lower risk of coronary heart disease and stroke in women.
High intake of:
- fruits,
- vegetables, and
- whole grains,
Moderate intake of:
- legumes,
- nuts, and
- low-fat dairy products, and
Low intake of:
- red and processed meats and
- sodium
